After nearly four weeks of courtroom proceedings, A$AP Rocky has been acquitted in his Los Angeles assault trial. The jury delivered its not-guilty verdict on Tuesday, following a brief pause in the trial for President’s Day.
As the verdict was read, the courtroom erupted in cheers. Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, embraced those around him and emotionally declared, “Thank y’all for saving my life.”
The rapper had been facing two felony charges of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, stemming from a 2021 incident involving his former friend, A$AP Relli. Prosecutors alleged that Rocky confronted Relli in a Hollywood parking garage and fired a gun at him. However, Rocky consistently denied the allegations, and his legal team argued that Relli had misrepresented key details of the encounter.
A conviction could have resulted in a prison sentence of up to 24 years, but with this verdict, A$AP Rocky walks free.
